As early as I can recall, whenever the subject of the earth came up as a young person, I was generally shown a picture of a ball that represented earth which was travelling around another much bigger ball called the sun, and not only that, but the earth was also spinning on its axis to rotate once in a day. Naturally, as a child I believed this.

However, now that I have come to read the bible and consider this subject, I am certainly no longer convinced that the earth does spin on its axis or that it moves around the sun.

It is my understanding , that not only does the bible not support a moving earth, but that scientific experimentation also is against such a theory. Please note, the shape of the arth will be covered in a different article.

1 Chronicles 16:30
tremble before him, all earth; yea, the world stands firm, never to be moved.

1 Samuel 2:8
He raises up the poor from the dust; he lifts the needy from the ash heap, to make them sit with princes and inherit a seat of honor. For the pillars of the earth are the Lord's, and on them he has set the world.

Joshua 10:12-13
Then spoke Joshua to the Lord in the day when the Lord gave the Amorites over to the men of Israel; and he said in the sight of Israel, "Sun, stand thou still at Gibeon, and thou Moon in the valley of Aijalon." Psalms 93:1

Granted, when I first heard of geocentricity, I did laugh. I thought, surely not. How can everybody be duped into thinking the earth was spinning if it wasn't. We can't be that stupid. But lo and behold, we are that stupid. It really shouldn't have surprised me, given all the other things man has been deceived about. Actually when you think about it, in order to get people to believe in evolution, one would have a few stumbling blocks to remove first. People in the past took it as a given that the earth was special, that the heavenly bodies such as the moon and sun, were the timepiece of the creator, running their courses in the heaven for us. Someone with that kind of mindset will be hard pushed to adopt the storyline so dominant in our world today, that of the slime turning into the sublime by time and error. So relegating the earth to "an insignificant planet of a hum-drum star lost in a galaxy tucked away in some forgotten corner of a universe in which there are far more galaxies than people." as Carl Sagan once put it, would be foundational to any future attack on God's Word. Of course no attack on God's Word will ever change it, it stands true for eternity, but it can however succeed in leading people into delusional thinking.

Let us now consider how we came to believe in the ball that spins on its axis as it races through space around the sun theory. Many people are under the impression that long ago man developed better tools to view further into the heavens and as such it was just a matter of time before that collection of data pointed undoubtedly to the view of the world we have today. That would be a faulty view. The real story is a lot more interesting....
